We are pleased to announce that IMI’s 12th International Conference will now be held in the historic city of Karbala, Iraq. This decision follows careful consideration of information and input from the Omani Medical Association, Omani authorities, and our local team. While we acknowledge the disappointment in not gathering in Oman, we are excited to offer attendees a deeply spiritual, academic, and cultural experience rooted in the heart of Islamic heritage.
With the support of our IMI Iraq Chapter and local partners, Karbala now stands ready to welcome scholars, healthcare professionals, and global delegates to a meaningful and memorable conference.
Karbala is a city of profound spiritual significance and historical depth. It is home to the holy shrines of Imam Hussain (ع) and Hazrat Abbas (ع), attracting millions of pilgrims annually, especially during Ashura and Arbaeen. This setting offers participants a powerful opportunity to reflect, connect, and grow—personally and professionally—while surrounded by a community of global change-makers.
Located a short distance from Karbala, Najaf is the site of the revered Imam Ali (ع) Shrine and the world’s largest cemetery, Wadi-us-Salaam. As a center of religious learning, Najaf adds depth to the spiritual and intellectual journey of every visitor.
The legendary ruins of Babylon offer a window into ancient Mesopotamian civilization. From the Ishtar Gate to the remnants of King Nebuchadnezzar’s palace, Babylon embodies the crossroads of history, science, culture, and empire.
Samarra is renowned for the spiral Malwiya Minaret of the Great Mosque and the revered Al-Askari Shrine, which holds a special place in Shia history. Despite periods of adversity, the city’s sacred sites continue to inspire resilience and reverence.
Located in the northern part of Baghdad, Kadhimayn is home to the majestic shrine of Imam Musa al-Kadhim (ع) and Imam Muhammad al-Taqi (ع). The twin-domed mosque attracts millions of pilgrims annually and stands as a beacon of peace and devotion.
Hosting our conference in Iraq offers more than just a change in venue—it provides a unique opportunity to bridge scholarly dialogue with spiritual reflection. Iraq is the cradle of civilizations and home to the sacred lineage of the Prophet's family (س). Through this conference, we hope to bring global attention to the country’s resilience, its intellectual legacy, and its capacity to inspire future generations of healthcare and academic leaders.
We look forward to welcoming you to Karbala—and invite you to journey with us through Iraq’s timeless cities, rich with meaning and memory.
